CX Index Goes Carbon Neutral

CX Index has partnered with GoCarbonNeutral.ie and Forestry Partners as part of the Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral 2020 campaign. We are working with the organisation to reduce carbon emissions while restoring and protecting the native Irish woodlands.

As part of our CSR and ESG initiatives, CX Index has successfully offset our carbon emissions for 2019 and is committed to continuing to offset and reduce emissions in the future. In order to achieve this, we have collaborated with Forestry Partners who conducted a thorough audit of the emissions that our organisation was responsible for in 2019. The total tons of CO2 equivalent to be offset from CX Index was 89.19 for 2019.

We have collaborated with the organisation as part of the Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral 2020 campaign, the goal of which is to reduce carbon emissions while restoring and protecting the native Irish woodlands by creating at least 25K tons of CO2 equivalent offsets and achieve 200 acres of planted or committed trees. In order to offset emissions, an initial 40-acre site has been acquired in Roscommon in the Irish Midlands and is ready for planting. Unfortunately, we will not be able to plant it until the autumn because of the COVID-19 related lockdown.

Forestry Partners is managing the planning, permits, planting and ongoing forestry management for the project. All planting is audited by third-party foresters and results will be published. Together we want to not only offset emissions but work to reduce future emissions and minimise the offsets required.

We are committed to achieving the highest international standards of forestry management and certification of our activity. In order to achieve these standards, all forest cover we plant must be:

  • Permanent – we will use a forestry management practice known as Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) – our forests will never be cut down.
  • Verifiable – we will work with leading national experts as third-party auditors to verify what we are doing and the impact we are having.
  • Additional – none of the activity we are doing would otherwise happen, so it can all be considered additional to what would otherwise be the case.

Research by Imperial College London and the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA) found that for every one ton of carbon offset, $664 of benefits are delivered to communities, infrastructure and biodiversity.

This initiative aligns with seven of the seventeen UN Strategic Development Goals – specifically:

  • Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
  • Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
  • Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Goal 13: Climate Action
  • Goal 14: Life Below Water
  • Goal 15: Life on Land

The goal of the campaign is to collaborate with Irish partners to create at least 25K tons of CO2 equivalent offsets and achieve 200 acres of planted or committed trees.

CX Index has successfully offset our emissions for 2019 and are committed to continuing to offset and reduce emissions in the future.

David Heneghan, CEO of CX Index said: “As Ireland loses hundreds of acres of forest per year to deforestation, it is essential that businesses like ours do our bit to contribute to the protection of the environment. We are really happy to be a part of Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral and look forward to working with the campaign for years to come.”

We are proud to be joining the fight against climate change and excited for our first trees to be planted later this summer. All planting will be audited by third-party foresters and results will be published via GoCarbonNeutral.ie.
